I was wondering lately and checking worldwide data on mobile internet usage. Of course Admob provides some sort of data, and other companies try to do the same (m:metrics for example). But I wanted to provide you with statistics on how mobile internet is doing in a smaller example market, Czech Republic - I based on data from spokesmen from local operators, which they were so nice to provide.

Czech Republic: 10 228 744
Number of mobile subscribers: 12 978 000 (126% penetration)

Total number of customers browsing mobile internet portals (mainly operator portals for now):

  • 500 000 T-Mobile Czech Republic - official information
  • 500 000 O2 Czech Republic - official information (for more details, see below)
  • 330 000 Vodafone Czech Republic - assumptions, unofficial information

Total 1,33 mil. customers using mobile web, thus around 10 - 15% penetration from population / unique customers. This data is provided for December 2007. It is expected that this ammount raised in the first quarter of 2008.

O2 in Czech Republic was so nice to provide very detailed data on a lot of things. Total data revenue in the first three quarters raised by 17,5% and got to 1,4 billion CZK (around 56 mil. EUR). Total ammount of data prepaid customers rised by 30. September 2007 to 182 thousand, which is 13,8% more than last year. The average income from data traffic per use increased to 110 CZK per user in the first three quarters. One very interesting thing: The total percentage of spent per user for data without SMS messages was 43% from total customer spent, compared to 40% in 2006. In this time, the number of users in O2 Active was around 500 000 unique customers per month.
