What is the potential using Bluetooth in applications?
Uncategorized August 24th, 2008Bluetooth is a technology for connection of two or more devices in around a 10 meter radius, mostly used for handsfrees and simple file transfers, but is Bluetooth technology with a bigger potential? Or is Wi-Fi going to come to all devices? Where is the benefit of Bluetooth?
A great benefit for Bluetooth is that it is covered on mobile phones today. Experts say that it has around a 70% coverage on mobile phones. Its a great technology when it comes to connection - you can choose from a variety of Bluetooth handsfrees, you can synchronize with your computer, you can send files to friends, but what else?

games. Its There are other options of using Bluetooth. You can use it for multiplayer gaming, we can see several examples. Try googling Micro Counter Strike, or just see some of the latest Gameloftawsome, but has technical limitations in preparation of the games. Another thing is applications. I have seen several applications like Bluetooth chat being used on mobile phones, but that I believe, is just the beginning. Recently I have seen an application from Digitania that uses bluetooth. Its called Mobile Bluetooth Radar.

Lets stop a little to see what Digitania has created. Its an application that basically seeks actively for Bluetooth devices in range, but Digitania has not taken the road of messaging the people via Bluetooth, but it actually reaches the people OTA (GPRS, 3G), and the people dont even have to have the application launched, and can get the message as an offline message. Great benefit, and lets see where Digitania can take this. I can probably see usage of this purpose in quick meetings, conferences, events, shows, parties, and in real life. Lets see where Digitania takes this
Story for the end from back in 2002: Bluetooth is a little limiting when it comes to more devices being connected in one place at a the same time. I remember back in 2002 creating a tournament with 12 devices (1 on 1 games - 6 stations) on a local conference. Basically it took around 1 - 2 minutes to search for the devices when they disconnected - and they disconnected quite often, and in normal stage it simply didn’t happen. But it was a great show, over 5.000 people participated.
