USA mobile market with my own eyes - New York
HungryMobile December 20th, 2008
You’ve probably noticed I haven’t been posting for the last 10 days. Sorry for that, I hope at least the latest question on Opinions in Mobile, which was “What was biggest thing of 2008 for you and why?”, did help. I have been exploring the wonders of New York City and USA, and I have to say many things have changed since I was last in US, which was 2 years ago in Los Angeles.
The mobile phone market has evolved, and has evolved quite quickly. I have visited the following stores: Apple, Sony, Nokia, Nintendo, T-Mobile, Verizon, AT&T, and BestBuy, and it was a wonderful experience.
I wish you all a successful 2009, I believe it will be an important year in mobile, and that we are on the eve of the largest mobile internet years so far (despite 2008 being already very successful). I believe mobile content will have a smaller role in 2009, especially wallpapers and the paid ringtones market, but I strongly believe that there will be more mobile games downloaded. Let me write up a separate articles on my 2009 expectations and beliefs.
See a few pictures from New York for yourselves:
Apple Store New York City
Nokia Store in New York City - quite surprised to find it, as Nokia is quite a minor brand in the US, they had a lovely store just behind the corner on the Apple store on 5th avenue
The Sony store was below my expectations. Knowing what Sony has and how many interesting stores and concepts and products they have, I was negatively surprised about their store in New York - I did expect more. On the other hand seeing Rolly for the first time (see second image), it was beautiful. This wonderful boy also probably has seen it for the first time (you can see it in his eyes). For those of you who dont know what Rolly is, its a moving, dancing, and lighting speaker
The T-Mobile G1. So far I rate it as one of the best phones on the market. Speed was decent, operating system wonderful. Just the browsing was a little hard to use and slow. Its the only thing I would give the iPhone still more points. But generally great work, improve the browser please (which they can, because its open source :-))
