Updated: Mobile operators around the world are milking the customers with extremely expensive fees for data transfers. Yes, mobile web data tarrifs are almost there, but unfortunatelly they’re not yet where they should be, and the experience using mobile data is horrible.

My suggestion to operators long time ago was, to create capping in the value of the data tarrif (e.g. 10 EUR per month), and you get charged via kB or MB or daily - doesn’t matter, but if you reach 10 EUR, then it will clearly cost you only that ammount - which is very easy to communicate to the user: “There is a data charge X, but maximum 10 EUR per month.”

T-Mobile in the UK has started with a great concept for data charging, they added to daily data “cap”, which is 2 GBP (~2 EUR) per day, which means you can’t really have a bill-shock from local mobile data, ever…

Congratulations T-Mobile UK, let’s hope it will be an inspiration for other mobile operators. More information about T-Mobile UK data tarrifs can be found here.
