Last week, Opinions in Mobile had a “real-world” non-virtual panel at the European Mobile Media conference. Thanks to that, we have a new person on board - Mark Linder from WPP, and many interesting responses on this week’s question - What do you think about LTE? Will it be an enabler of new mobile services? So here is a small summary about most controversial upcoming technology in the mobile world - LTE, and what opinion leaders from the mobile industry think.

LTE (Long Term Evolution - 4G) will be definately a revolution in the mobile industry. According to the opinions LTE will have a huge advantage in advanced connection technology, that will be worth for operators and users. Especially in terms of connectivity. xxx and xxx definately agree to that opinion.

Operators will finally have an effective weapon against other internet providers as, for example, Arjan Olsder said. LTE provides amazing possibilities for developers and entrepreneurs, who can bring new services to the customers.

Some of the opinions were not positive. For instance Vassili le Moigne said, that the acceptance from the side of customer is also important and that is roadblock. As Jonathan MacDonald said: “We have to remember that technology is secondary to the meaning of those services to peoples’ lives.” Customers must be educated about new possibilities and only from their side LTE has to be accepted in order to take an attention, or else it will not obtain a great success.

If LTE will reach the mass market, the operators must create new contept and reduce the prices of mobile internet to gain mass audience. Mark Challinor said, that LTE needs to be customer centric with the market. From this point of view LTE can gain a great potential.

All of the opinions agreed with the need to speed up connection and to bring new services. Volker Hirsch from Connect2Media named some services in connection with entertainment like streamed music, VOD, fully-connected games, multi-directional connections, connectivity and the interactivity. It looks really promising.

Our opinion at HungryMobile is, that LTE will definatelly make sense for computers and new multimedia phones, but the broad coverage of 3G should first be required in Europe. I believe some operators like T-Mobile in a few countrie might want to skip from 2,75 G to 4 G, but we believe the way is to do things in order.

Please take some time and answer our poll question:

Do you think LTE (4G) will be hugely adopted worldwide?
