Is Nokia heading for netbooks right? Copying Apple?
Mobile phones, Opinions in Mobile August 25th, 2009
Very recently, Nokia has annoucned it’s new netbook, and with Nokia describing it as the “natural evolution” from mobile phones. This means that if we now look at all areas Nokia is trying to cover, then we get quite a huge area, acquisitions, and a lot of companies. Now of course, that’s great on one hand, but on the other hand, what is their main focus going to be?
I see the latest mobile phones from Nokia, and don’t get me wrong, I’m quite a Nokia fan with the latest N97 -> but still, the phone software is just not there. The beauty that Nokia had in UI and GUI simply faded away, and needs to come back again. So rather then making netbooks, maybe Nokia should focus on the area, that it used to do best - mobile phones, and mobile phone software. With Symbian struggling behind Apple and Google, it’s definately good to focus and bring the best out of the assets you have.
Also you might be thinking, that Nokia is in a way copying the products that Apple is doing. Macbooks = Nokia books, iPhone = Symbian, Appstore+iTunes = Ovi, … Just a thought, but it looks more then inspired.
This is why this week’s Opinions in Mobile, we are also asking our opinion leaders:
What do you think about Nokia entering the netbook market?
