QR Code Hunters - one of the first effective QR code games
Mobile Games, mobile web November 19th, 2009Recently I attended the Google Developer Day 2009 in PRAGUE, where in addition to all the great people, presentations, great passion, and of course many developers to come and see the show, you could see one of the first successful QR code games.
Google partnered with a local developer to help them put this together - Inmite - a company greatly experienced in mobile and Android development, and they pulled this off beautifully. Flawless job done!
The numbers
Out of roughly 800 attendees, around 100 played the game (over 10%!!), and many played it quite actively. Some of the guys did just hunt for QR codes, as there were big prizes involved. Hundreds of codes were placed on places, objects, and even on people (I carried one myself) :). The winners collected around 360 points, which was awsome.
The hunt (mechanics)
There were some QR that had a 1 point, some QR codes that had more points - the mechanics was simple - get as many of them as you can, click the links and you can win 3 Android phones.

The stats were shown on Google screens, so people knew how they stand:

Some of the top code collectors didn’t even get to see the presentations, which I think is a big pitty, but Inmite already knows that and I believe throughout next year it will be cross-connected with the presentations much more. Google Developer Day was one of the few Google Developer events around Europe.
